Institute of Polymer Research
The Institute of Polymer Research is divided in the Centre for Membranes and structured Materials in Geesthacht and the Centre for Biomaterial Development in Teltow.
Scientists in Geesthacht investigate areas including the use of membranes for the development of zero-emissions power plants and power generation from saltwater. They also develop functionalised membranes for use in fuel cell systems. Meanwhile, activities in Teltow focus on the development of biomaterials for the field of regenerative medicine.

GKSS Researchers Investigate Self-Assembled Polymer Membranes for Separation
2009-10-01
News -
Since September scientists from the GKSS Research Centre in Geesthacht have been carrying out research with eleven partners in the frame of a European Union-cofunded project entitled “Self-assembled polymer membranes”, SELFMEM. In this project, self-organising membranes are developed and analysed for medical and environmental applications. The funding of around 860,000 Euros for GKSS is to be used for development of new membrane systems.

Press Release GKSS Research Centre Geesthacht -
Transparent foils which are conductive and thus use sunlight for generation of energy. Hulls of ships, which no longer rust due to a nano-coating (nano-technology offers numerous surprising solutions for a variety of applications). The new Helmholtz-Group of Academic Talents ‘Nanochemistry and Nanoengineering’ deals intensively with the design and the development of new materials for industrial applications and, as part of the Geesthacht Institute for Polymer Research, the new group thus expands the research programme of the GKSS.
